Visit the “My Muse” Museum
Located in the historic center of Gjirokastër, near the traditional Bazaar, the “My Muse” memorial museum is dedicated to Musine Kokalari, the first female writer in Albanian literature and an important intellectual voice of the 20th century.
This visit offers a powerful perspective on the persecution of political opponents during the communist dictatorship. It tells the story of an intellectual woman who dared to defend democratic ideas and paid a high price for it, spending much of her life in prison, internment, and isolation.
The museum displays Musine Kokalari’s personal belongings, manuscripts, memoirs, and publications, as well as a 16-minute documentary about her life. By visiting, you help keep alive the voices that reveal the truth about communism crimes and reflect on the true value of freedom.
In the absence of a dedicated Cold War museum in the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, this memorial offers visitors a powerful insight into one of the harshest communist dictatorships in Europe.
