THE SAINT MICHAEL’S CHURCH IN MINGUL

The Saint Michael church, a three-nave basilica covered with domes, is positioned in the centre of the village of Mingul. It has a narthex covered with domes as well, a porch and other rooms on the western side. This 18th century building has a modest architecture but nevertheless it has served as the main node for the development of the village.

The Monastery of the Transfiguration (Christ’s Metamorphosis), Drenovë (Mingul)

The monastery is about a 30-minute walk from the village of Mingul. Although it is not well preserved, the monastery is an interesting example of the post-Byzantine architecture of the area. The inscription preserved in the interior dates back to 1666. It is a crossed-domed triconch church. It was built with porous stones and the outer sides are richly decorated with arches supported by pilasters in the conchs and articulated frames. The church has a painted interior which is still visible, even though it hasn’t been preserved
