NOKOVË, THE VILLAGE WITH TWO CHURCHES
Nokovë along with the adjacent village, Mingul, are located in the northernmost part of Lunxhëria province. The village has a pleasant and relaxing and welcoming centre.
Saint George Church
In the center is located Saint George Church, the most important one of Nokovë. It is a small three-aisled church, belonging to the end of 18th century. The building has a multi-faced apse with thin pilasters and arches that give an elegant appearance. In the north there is a porch and a nice belfry. The frescoes inside are preserved in very good condition, as well as the carved wooden iconostasis and other furniture.
Saint Ilia Church
After an easy walk on a beautiful path, you reach the hill above the village where the second church is located: St. Ilia. As in other villages, churches dedicated to Prophet Ilia are built in the highest part of the village. It is a small structure but restored and well maintained. Large parts of the indoor wall paintings are preserved allowing to appreciate its former beauty. These frescoes are works of the painters from Qestorati: Vasil and Joan. It is single-nave type, with a porch on the west, from where you can have an impressive view over the village and the field below. A visit to Nokova cannot be complete without a visit to St. Elias Church.
