LIBOHOVA CASTLE
The Libohova Castle is one of many fortifications built by Ali Pasha Tepelena at the end of 18th century. It is situated at a dominant spot over today’s city, with an almost quadrangular shape, about 50 m x 70 m, with towers at its corners. It was dedicated to Shanisha, the sister of Ali Pasha. The feudal residence was located inside the castle. Today the inner area of the castle is empty.
In the city of Libohova, near the mosque can be found the Ottoman cemetery, where the grave of Shanisha is also located.
In the city centre, the Beys of Libohova built their own saraj which today it is still the most exciting and fascinating building in the city. Nearby is the Libohova Plane tree, an important and symbolic natural monument of the city.
